The inaugural Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2009 ( SME 2009), aptly themed “Electric Mix of Rhythmic Sensation”, was first conceptualized by Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim awhile ago but is now brought to fruition by YB Elizabeth Wong as an annual musical event for the State of Selangor. The objectives for the event are to provide an avenue for in-depth musical expressions, unwavering encouragement for musical involvement, finite appreciation of musical offerings and to also expose to the primarily younger generation in our society that music is an timeless art that can be expressed in many different forms.

The Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2009 is planned to be held from 1st  -9th August 2009 in Shah Alam, the capital city of Selangor. This event is positioned to be a solid and positive platform to discover and unearth new and promising performers and entertainers from diverse backgrounds representing the different types of music  genres. It is with great anticipation and excitement to have finally been able to present a fusion of many cultures, potpourri of beats and rhythmic sensations in tandem with the theme for year 2009 title “Electric Mix of Rhythmic Sensations”.

The musical extravaganza will showcase a variety of performance by Independent Artistes, Traditional Dance Troupes, Balle-balle, Cempuling and Cempuling Meru, Dikir Barat, Street Musical Festival, Puisi and Songs Corner. Friendly competitions such as Brass Band, Halilintar Dram, Traditional Dance and Patriotic Idol are also organized to instill a spirit of competitiveness whilst raising the bar of performance excellence amongst the participating groups. Concurrently to complement this musical voyage a host of other activities are also planned to further entertain the crowd such as the Marhaban & Berzanji Selangor Festival, “World Orang Asal”, Celebrations, Twin Festival and parade of “Mini Cars”.

Facilitating this musical journey, the city of Shah Alam boats many ultra modern state of the art facilities such as Auditorium MBSA, Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam, Laman Budaya, Plaza Alam Sentral Shah Alam, Datran Shah Alam which will play host to the opening and closing ceremonies as well as be venues during the course of the musical escapade.

The Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2009 “Electric Mix of Rhythmic Sensation” is amongst the many interesting and unique events planned to be held in Selangor during the year and invitation to immerse all sense is extended to all residents in and around Selangor not forgetting our very important friends from other countries.
