Violence Against Peaceful Demonstrations Unacceptable
Jul 17th, 2009 | By nizam | Category: Press ReleasesI condemn the heavy-handed action of the Selangor Police and FRU in their violent clampdown of peaceful demonstrators outside Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam, this morning.
One of my staff, Loo Chuan Boon was beaten and dragged, resulting in him being sent to the hospital. YB Gan Pei Nei, the state assemblywoman for Rawang also suffered a similar fate, while I was pushed until I fell on my back. In addition, seven demonstrators were arrested, including my colleague in the Selangor government Exco, YB Dr Xavier Jeyakumar and member of Parliament for Kapar, YB S. Manikavasagam.
Violence against peaceful demonstrators is never acceptable to begin with, and most definitely cannot be tolerated in light of the highly suspicious death of Teoh Beng Hock, political secretary of Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah.
Malaysians are highly disturbed and angered over the death of Teoh in the custody of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). We have every right to express ourselves peacefully. Instead of wielding its might against demonstrators holding flowers, the police should instead use its authority to investigate the MACC officers who are responsible for the loss of an innocent man’s life.

State Assemblyman (Bukit Lanjan)
Selangor State Exco
