APRIL 29, 2009 SELANGOR TO RESUME WATER DISCUSSIONS WITH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

SHAH ALAM : The Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water and the Selangor Government have agreed to work together to find the best solution in the restructuring of the water services industry in Selangor.

The commitment was made by the newly appointed Minister Datuk Peter Chin and Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim during their first official meeting in Putrajaya on Monday.

Both the Ministry and the State Government have also agreed to establish a joint task force to find an amicable solution to all the pending issues involved the water restructuring exercise that included the takeover of water assets from the four water concessionaires in Selangor by the State Government. Heading the task force for the Selangor government is the State Secretary.

Tan Sri Abdul Khalid has described the meeting with the Minister as “fruitful and productive”.

“Both sides share great concern for the consumers in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur and we are therefore committed to come up with a solution that would give the consumer the best value for money,” he said.
