SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Government , through a legal representative, has written to the Department of Insolvency Malaysia to seek clarification on the status of the RM9.9 million fund belonging to Wives of Selangor Assemblymen and MPs Welfare and Charity Organisation (Balkis).

In the letter dated April 6, 2009, the state had among others seek to clarify if the department is handling the fund as testified by a Registar of Society officer, Tairah Yusof at an inquiry held by the Selangor State Assembly’s Special Select Committee on Competence, Accountability and Transparancy (Selcat) last week.

Tairah told the inquiry that the fund is currently in the hands of the Department of Insolvency Malaysia.

In the event that the department is managing the fund, the state government hopes that the fund will be returned to the state. We would like to stress that the Selangor Government has a right over the fund considering that majority of the money was donations from the state and its agencies. Further, the state government has been advised that the dissolution of Balkis is unlawful.

The state government hopes that the Department of Insolvency Malaysia will maintain a professional conduct in handling this case and provide us with the clarification as soon as possible.
