07 FEB 2009 PAKATAN RAKYAT GOVERNMENT SETTLES KAMPUNG BEREMBANG PROBLEM
Feb 7th, 2009 | By nizam | Category: Press ReleasesSHAH ALAM – The Selangor State Government under the Pakatan Rakyat was extremely concerned with the problem faced by the residents of Kampung Berembang who had long been denied their rights to own low cost houses.
After more than two years since watching their houses being demolished in November 2006 by the previous Government, the Kampung Berembang residents’ problems are now at an end.
Various obstacles had been faced by the Kampung Berembang residents after their houses were demolished, forcing them to move to temporary dwellings far from their village while waiting for the low cost houses promised them by the previous Government to be built. Even worse, the previous Government ignored fairness when it decided that low cost houses would not be given to those who opposed the its actions.
68 Kampung Berembang families had been denied their rights to buy low cost houses. In defiance of the Barisan Nasional Government’s cruelty, the residents decided to live under a nearby electric cable route.
After being given the mandate during last year’s elections, the Selangor State Pakatan Rakyat Government held discussions with all parties to find the best possible solution. As a result, the 68 families who had been denied rights to buy low cost houses in Kampung Berembang will have the opportunity to own them. Even though the developer had sold all the low cost houses in Kampung Berembang the State Government was given guarantees by the developer that all 68 families would be given houses like the rest of the residents. All further business such as agreement letters would be handled by the developer directly to all the families involved.
It is the hope of the State Government that this solution will benefit all parties besides ensuring the Kampung Berembang low cost housing project is finished quickly. Development decisions in Selangor are settled through intelligent actions, by safeguarding the rights and welfare of the community and rakyat, in line with the policy of “Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor”.
