SHAH ALAM, 7 August - The State Government of Selangor will be having the Selangor Local Councillor’s Conference 2009/10 on this coming Thursday, 13th August, from 9.45am to 5pm at Dewan Jubli Perak, Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (SSAAS).

This is the second conference held under the Pakatan Rakyat Government’s rule, in conjuction with the recent announcement of the new Local Councillor lineup for the session of 2009/10.

At the conference, the Dato’ Menteri Besar of Selangor, Tan Sri Dato’ Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will be conferring the letters of appointment to the 288 Local Councillors, comprising 20% new faces and the rest, experienced second term Councillors.

The Councillors will then read the pledge of acceptance of duties as a sign of their commitment to serve the rakyat and realize the state government vision of ensuring the rights and well-being of all Selangor citizens, through the ‘Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor’ programme.

Two working papers are scheduled to be presented at the conference, namely “Roles and Current Challenges if Local Councillors” and “Introduction to The Town and Village Planning Act 1976 (Act 172) ” by the Selangor State Town and Village Planning Department.

An interactive question and answer session slated to be held after the presentation of the papers is expected to enhance the level of understanding and cooperation to further solidify the administration of Local Councils.

The organizing committee, the Local Governnment Section of the Selangor Economic Planning Unit, under the leadership of YB Mr Ronnie Liu, the Exco in Charge of Local Governnment and Research and Development also respectfully request the cooperation of attendees, government officials and Councillors who are attending this Conference to take precautionary health checks in lieu of the current H1N1 situation.
