Rodziah Hopes for Woman’s Community Centre in Each Dun

KLANG, Mar 21 – Chairperson for Permanent Committee on Welfare, Woman’s Affairs, Science Technology and Innovation, Rodziah Ismail hopes that more women’s community centres will be set up in this state.

She said the community centres would not only increase women’s skills and in fact expose them to their legal rights.

Rodziah said, so far several state assembly (Dun) areas which had expressed an interest in setting up community centres for women.

These include Taman Medan, Batu Tiga, Selat Klang, Hulu Klang and Rawang.

“My wish is that these centres become more than just a place where women can gather to increase their skills but also learn about their legal rights, because we know that women need to help and support each other before learning to be independent,” she said officiating the Women’s Mushroom Entrepreneurs Course at the Multipurpose Hall in Lorong Hamdan, Off Jalan Khamis, Meru near here this morning.

Rodziah hoped such community centres would be set up at each Dun with various programmes that would benefit women.

She said the state government had also conducted several courses especially for women, particularly single mothers, to help increase their source of income.

She said in the past month, four courses had been introduced which were on bead-sewing, bakeries, mushrooms and childrens’ education.

In her speech earlier, Rodziah said women entrepreneurs should be fully utilise mushroom-based businesses which could reap handsome returns.

She said, they had to avoid being a flash in the pan, and instead work hard to ensure their businesses would be a continuous source of income.

“I hope courses such as this can be an eye-opener as we must never forget the things we have learned,” she said. – NOOR ALLIA KASSIM
