MB Denies Buying Toyota Lexus With KDEB Funds
Jan 15th, 2009 | By nizam | Category: NewsSHAH ALAM, 14 January – Selangor Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim today denied allegations that he used funds from Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB) to purchase a Toyota Lexus for personal use.
He said the allegation by former Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo was deliberately fabricated.
“The Lexus is mine which I bought it before the elections and it is quite stupid to make such statements. Those involved should examine the true facts,” he said who prefers to use his own car for official government business.
Abdul Khalid said the car which he bought in July 2007 was also used during the General Elections last March when he stood as candidate for Ijok and Bandar Tun Razak.
He added, it was impossible that he would have used KDEB funds to buy the vehicle as he had already been using it before he became Menteri Besar.
He said, even though he had been chairman at several companies and offered company cars, he had always refused as he preferred using his own.
“My principle is that it’s better to use your own car if you have one,” he said
Abdul Khalid said he had never misused KDEB funds for personal gain.
In another development, Abdul Khalid was also asked on the plans to build an Al-Madinah International University (Mediu) campus in Cyberjaya.
He said the proposal was still being discussed.
“We support this proposal but have yet to decide whether to give the land or not as it involves land belonging to the state government so there are several procedures that need to be looked into,” he said.
He said this at a media conference after chairing the weekly State Executive Council Meeting this afternoon. – MURIZA ABDUL HAMID
