SHAH ALAM, Mar 11 – Information relating to the Declaration of Assets owned by the State Executive Council (Exco) Members will be displayed on the state government’s website at www.selangor.gov.my beginning March 13th.

Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said this information included assets such as property, shares and money owned by Excos since they took their oath of office on March 24th last year.

Abdul Khalid said this declaration of assets was done to ensure those holding high posts in Selangor do not arbitrarily use their positions to own assets unethically or not according to the law.

He added, information relating to assets declared also included transactions of ownership or disposal of the assets, not including those owned by their children aged 21 and above.

He also explained the state government’s decision to not include asset information owned prior to their current posts.

“After getting legal counsel, the state government has decided that it is better not to include assets previously owned by the Excos.

“This is because the state government is unable to protect the Exco and their families or provide insurance,” he said.

However, this information had been given to the Menteri Besar’s Office and could be announced for validation purposes, subject to conditions and approval by the Select Committee on Competence, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat).

He said this to reporters during the break at the 12th Selangor State Legislative Assembly Meeting this afternoon.

When officiating the ceremony yesterday, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj advised the state government to implement Asset Declaration as soon as possible in order to ensure Selangor is the best in implementing good administrative management.- NOOR ALLIA KASSIM
