Give Evidence if Mayor and PBT YDP Refuse to Cooperate
Mar 11th, 2009 | By nizam | Category: NewsSHAH ALAM, Mar 11 – The state government will conduct fair investigations on complaints of Mayors and the Yang Dipertua (YDP) of local authorities (PBT) refuse to cooperate with State Assemblymen, Members of Parliament and PBT Council Members.
The Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said overall the Mayors and YDPs had given full cooperation in implementing the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government’s policies.
He said their performance was constantly monitored through monthly meetings chaired by Chairman for Permanent Committee on Local Government, Study and Research, Ronnie Liu.
“We encourage the Yang Berhormat to lodge complaints either orally or in writing which if possible should be supported by clear evidence so that the local government can be properly managed,” he said when answering questions by Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim (PKR-Kota Damansara) at the 12th Selangor State Legislative Assembly this morning.
Abdul Khalid said at the same time the state government would review the effectiveness of Mayor and YDP administration.
He said, the research paper on the issue was already being put together.
“I expect that before the end of May we will bring up several decisions relating to the administration of Council Members and monitoring the efforts carried out by Mayors and YDPs,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid said research would be carried out to help the state government decide on plans to introduce elections for local governments.
He said, the state government under the Permanent Committee for Study and Research had allocated RM20,000 for the research which was expected to be completed by the end of March. – NOOR ALLIA KASSIM
