Don’t Misinterpret The Law for Personal Gain – Sultan of Selangor
Mar 10th, 2009 | By nizam | Category: NewsSHAH ALAM, Mar 10 – The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj calls on all parties to respect the laws of the state and country.
He said, each provision of the Federal Constitution, Selangor State Establishment Constitution and the laws of the countries must be respected.
“Let not there be any party who misinterprets these legal provisions for personal gain or for that of certain parties only,” he said at the opening of the second term of the 12th Selangor State Legislative Assembly this morning.
Sultan Sharafuddin said these laws need to be given the highest priority, over and above that of personal and political gain.
He added, all parties must give priority to unity and stop doing things that could jeopardise the country’s image.
He said, this was because lately many incidents had occurred involving disputes in certain clusters of society besides street demonstrations which affected peace, harmony and unity.
Sultan Sharafuddin also reminded State Assemblymen (Aduns) present to always respect one another regardless of political ideologies.
“This is because the aim of each State Assemblyman is the same, which is to give the best service to the people and the state,” he said.
He added, they should also ensure all actions and decisions did not contravene and were in line with legal provisions.
He also wished to see a higher level of respect and cooperation between the races in this state.
He said it was most unfortunate that the racial issue had been politicised.
“I would like to stress that the people of Selangor have to change their paradigms in this matter. Isn’t it better for us all to look at our similarities, instead of constantly arguing about our differences,” he said.
He also hoped the state government would carry out policies which would benefit the people as a whole without any exceptions. – NOOR ALLIA KASSIM
