Efforts to Promote OSCC Throughout Selangor
Mar 7th, 2009 | By nizam | Category: NewsSUBANG JAYA, Mar 7 – The Selangor Permanent Committee on Women’s Affairs will distribute pamphlets containing information about the One Stop Crisis Centre (OSCC) to 56 state assembly areas (Dun) in order to promote its services to the public.
Chairwoman for the Permanent Committee on Women’s Affairs, Science, Technology and Innovation, Rodziah Ismail said the effort was an initiative by the state government and OSCC Secretariat through Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) provide a place for the public particularly women to refer to in the event of abuse such as rape, sexual harassment and domestic violence.
“The distribution of OSCC pamphlets is part of our effort in helping those who are oppressed especially women, by providing them with information and shelter,” she said adding that this would also help inform the public on where to refer to if faced with such cases.
She said this during a press conference held in conjunction with the International Women’s Day Celebrations at Sunway Pyramid, here, this afternoon.
Also present were the Chairman for Permanent Committee on Investments, Industry and Commerce, Teresa Kok, Rawang State Assemblyman (Adun), Gan Pei Nei, Teratai Adun, Jenice Lee, Subang Jaya Adun, Hannah Yeoh and Serdang Member of Parliament, Teo Nie Ching.
As many as 2,000 out of 50,000 pamphlets on the OSCC were distributed to the public during the ceremony.
Rodziah said, pamphlets would continue to be distributed by her committee and other NGOs as it involved all DUNs in the state of Selangor.
“We hope this will create awareness about the functinos of the OSCC as well as services available for the public,” she said. – MURIZA ABDUL HAMID
