AMK slams Ahmad Said’s Statement

SHAH ALAM, Mar 2 – Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Malaysia today has slammed Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan’s counter statements in a local daily yesterday.

Ahmad Said in the report published by The Sunday Star had questioned AMK’s actions in sending a cow to the MACC by claiming it was ‘stupid and childish’.

AMK Malaysia Chief, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin in a statement said AMK had already given its reasons earlier.

“It was a sarcastic gesture as well as a reminder for the MACC to be more professional in handling all cases it received,” he said.

He said the MACC prosecuted Pakatan Rakyat leaders or members too easily and openly but kept quiet when faced with cases involving Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN).

He said, the MACC needed to stop allowing itself from being led by a noose.

“Hundreds of cases involving Umno-BN leaders, all with hard proof and facts which were provided by the AMK and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) before this had never been investigated or brought to court,” he said.

He added,  Ahmad Said had apparently lodged a police report on AMK’s actions which were said to be an ‘insult to a public servant’.

“We are not afraid of any police report lodged by Ahmad Said or even anyone who questions AMK’s actions which were meant to serve as a reminder.

“AMK would like to remind Ahmad Said and MACC in general that they held a great responsibility, in line with their status as ‘public servants’ or ‘servants of the people’,” he said adding that their responsibility was to the people and not Umno-BN leaders as was being done now.

Shamsul Iskandar said AMK would continue to serve as a reminder to  MACC and Ahmad Said in particular to ensure they were more transparent and fair in everything they did.

According to the statement, AMK again challenged Ahmad Said to reveal its findings in cases involving Umno-BN leaders such as the Auditor General’s report, the many cases involving Khir Toyo, as well as corruption involving the purchasing of Scorpene submarines and Eurocopters, and Terengganu oil royalty as well as others previously highlighted by AMK and PR components. – MURIZA ABDUL HAMID
