SHAH ALAM, February 27 – The Dato’ Menteri Besar’s lawyer, Sankara N Nair today said that his client had issued three letters of demand through S.N. Nair & Partners to Gerak Chairman, Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan.

Sankara said the letters date February 25th and 26th were sent to the two after they had made statements about Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim relating to the issue of sacrificial cows and using state government funds for maintenance of his personal car.

The three letters gave them seven days to give explanations before further action was taken.

The letter to Mohd Nazree referred to his statement to the media on February 3rd which among other things said that ‘today GERAK has been given yet another piece of information and evidence about misappropriation of funds and abuse of power involving the Selangor Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’.

Mohd Nazree had also allegedly made a statement claiming that Abdul Khalid was involved in corrupt practices and abused his powers as the Menteri Besar.

The letter also referred to a statement by Mohd Nazree on February 21st which was stated in the second letter.

S. N. Nair & Partners in those letters also demanded an explanation on Mohd Nazree’s statements which were false and lies which defamed Ahmad Khalid.

The letters to Ahmad Said referred to statements he made as quoted by the media, including The Star on February 21st which claimed among other things that there was strong evidence to prove Ahmad Khalid had abused his powers in maintaining his private car and the distribution of 46 sacrificial cows in his parliamentary constituency, Bandar Tun Razak.

According to S.N.Nair & Partners, his client stated that Ahmad Said has no legal authority to make the impugned statement.

“On all allegations, our client reiterates and maintains his innocence and shall defend himself vehemently. Our client has not broken any laws or misused his powers in any way whatsoever,” said Sankara.
