SHAH ALAM, February 25 – The state government today decided to extend  State Executive Member (Exco) Elizabeth Wong’s leave while investigations into her case are conducted.

The Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said any decision relating to her position could only be decided upon after investigations into the issue had ended.

Elizabeth who is also State Assemblywoman (Adun) for Bukit Lanjan, had expressed a wish to resign from both posts after the issue relating to her controversial semi-nude photographs was given leave by the state government and the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) which she represented.

Abdul Khalid said he was honoured and respectful of the fact that the Sultan had entrusted this issue fully to him and the State Excos, in deciding the issue relating to Elizabeth as decided during their meeting at the Istana Mestika this morning.

“The State Government is also thankful for the wise advise given by the Sultan and his views relating to infringement of privacy. As he had said, it was sad that a person’s personal rights had been violated, especially when used for political purposes,” he said in a media statement after chairing the weekly Exco meeting this afternoon.

The Sultan of Selangor through his Private Secretary, Dato’ Mohamad Munir Bani in a statement today said he was confident the Dato’ Menteri Besar would come to a wise and fair decision on Elizabeth ’s status.

He also could not give any guidance or advice to the Dato’ Menteri Besar on this issue as it was still being investigated by the police and involved Elizabeth ’s political posts.

Mohamad Munir said, the Sultan of Selangor was impartial in political matters. – NOOR ALLIA KASSIM
