Cow A ‘Gift’ Of Protest
Feb 25th, 2009 | By nizam | Category: NewsSHAH ALAM, February 25 – The Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Malaysia today ‘gifted’ the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) with a calf as a sign of protest against the commission which was felt to be selective towards particular complaints.
AMK Chief, Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin said the calf was a symbol of their protest towards the MACC’s enthusiasm in giving piority to the case involving the Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, on allegations of abuse of power by using state government funds to maintain his personal car and the distirbution of 46 sacrificial cows in the Bandar Tun Razak constituency.
“The cows given by AMK to the MACC is not a cheap political stunt, as it is more of a reminder for the MACC to not be ‘lead by the nose like a cow’ by Umno,” he said to reporters at the Plaza Masalam compound, this afternoon.

Also present was Selangor Menteri Besar Political Secretary, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and AMK Vice Chief cum Selangor AMK Chief, Selangor, Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainudin.
Shamsul said AMK also planned to deliver a memorandum stating their protest against MACC Chief, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan’s recent statement where he claimed that the commission had strong evidence to charge Abdul Khalid on charges of abuse of his powers as a Menteri Besar.
“Considering the investigation papers are still confidential under the Official Secrets Act (OSA), the MACC Chief seems to have prejured the courts by ‘prosecuting’ Abdul Khalid,” said Shamsul who also handed 20 corruption charges involving the former Selangor Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo, which had never been investigated.
He said, the report had been given to Putrajaya MACC representatives at 2.45 this afternoon.
“Besides the 20 charges, we have also added fresh reports relating to the buying and selling of luxury condominiums in Saudi Arabia , also said to involve Dr Mohamad Khir,” he said.
Earlier, about 200 AMK and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Youths leaders and members including Selangor Pas Youths gathered to protest and give the calf and memorandum.
They had gathered in front of a fastfood joint near the Plaza Masalam, at about 2 o’clock before walking to the MACC office.
Carrying banners criticising MACC’s actions, they also shouted slogans pressing for the Ahmad Said’s resignation and asking for the commission to reinvestigate the corruption charges against Dr Mohamad Khir throughout his tenure as Menteri Besar.
In a related development, Khairul Anuar said the calf was a clear message from AMK to the commission so that it would not continue to be ‘lead by the nose like a cow’ by those with vested interests.
“This cow is a symbolic or manifestation of our anger because this has been made an issue whereas other cases involving millions of ringgit have not been investigated transparently and in fact totally set aside,” he said. – MURIZA ABDUL HAMID
