Anwar Questions MACC, Khir
Feb 22nd, 2009 | By nizam | Category: NewsPUCHONG, February 22 – The Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader, has described the statement by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief on investigations against the Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, as a political statement.
Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Dato’ Ahmad Said Hamdan had made a subjudice statement as there have been no prosecutions yet against Abdul Khalid on the issue of misuse of power involving cows and the maintenance of his private vehicle.
“He can be fierce as long as a case involves the Pakatan Rakyat (PR), but when it involves hundreds of millions fleeced by the Umno leaders, there seem to be no investigations or statements.
“…but the moment it is a PR leader, a judgement seems to be made from the outset,” he said to the media when commenting on former Selangor Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo for Abdul Khalid to step down.
Anwar also questioned how Khir himself could speak of issues on corruption.
Various reports had been given to the MACC on the former Menteri Besar’s misconduct involving giving of land and contracts, but no investigations were ever conducted, said Anwar.
“…let us not be caught by the political games of people like Khir Toyo who get support from the MACC just to win in the Umno Youth,” he said.
Abdul Khalid who was also present in the media conference, did not comment on Khir’s statement as he was leaving it to his lawyer to make a statement.
Meanwhile, Anwar was also asked about allegations linking distributed photographs of Selangor Executive Council Member, Elizabeth Wong, with her ex-boyfriend.
“(I do not know whether ) the police are investivating the ex-boyfriend, boyfriend… they should be conducting investigations professionally. I do not know if the person is involved or not.
“I asked Elizabeth, she does not know who took and distributed them, so the question is, if police conduct investigations it should be done professionally, (as) this reeks of Umno trying to give such an impression. I do not want to judge, I do not know,” he said.
Earlier, the Dato’ Menteri Besar attended a ceremony officiating the new Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina ) Sin Ming, near here.
At the ceremony, Abdul Khalid also announced that the state government would give RM50,000 grants to build the new school. – NOOR ALLIA KASSIM
