PR Leaders Support MB Leadership

SUBANG JAYA, February 21 – Pakatan Rakyat (PR) State Assemblymen (Aduns) and Members of Parliament today stated their support for the leadership of the Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri  Abdul Khalid Ibrahim in the administration of the state of Selangor.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Selangor Vice President, Azmin Ali said the statement by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to charge Abdul Khalid was politically motivated and selective prosecution to smear his reputation as the Dato’ Menteri Besar.

“Based on facts contained in the defamation suit by Tan  Sri  Abdul Khalid Ibrahim against Dato’ Seri Dr Khir  Toyo  it is clear that the allegations attempted are totally baseless.

“Plus the prosecuting power is within the jurisdiction of the Attorney General’s Office,” he said in a media conference at the Holiday Villa Hotel here, this afternoon.

In the media conference, he also questioned the MACC’s actions in making an open statement about the issue.

“The MACC has no right to make an open statement on an investigation before a final decision is made by the Attorney General’s Chambers,” he said.

He added, the statement by the MACC was against normal rules and could be interpreted as an attempt to influence the Attorney General who had a duty to act fairly.

“We demand that the MACC carries out its duties responsibly, independently and transparently,” he said, viewing this as an malicious, planned attempt by UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) to shake the administration of the PR Government in Selangor by using institutions such as the MACC and Attorney General’s Chambers.

He also believed that the PR leadership would continue to be the target of defamation by UMNO and BN in the next few months.

“We will uphold the supremacy of the constitution and support the leadership of Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to continue leading Selangor,” he said, representing Selangor Aduns and Members of Parliament.

He was also confident the rakyat would continue to support  Abdul Khalid.

“The Selangor PR administration under Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for nearly a year has always placed the welfare of the people through various agendas and programmes in line with the Merakyatkan Ekonomi  Selangor  principle, for the sake of the people,” he said.

In other developments, Azmin said the PR respected the decision by Bukit Lanjan Adun, Elizabeth Wong to relinquish her post as Adun and Selangor State Executive Council (Exco) member.

However, he said, as a state government, the Menteri Besar also had to get the advice of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj based on today’s political scenario.

“Only after that will the party sit down and discuss the next course of action.

“I will not speculate until the Menteri Besar faces His Majesty,” he said adding that there was no official decision as of yet. – MURIZA ABDUL HAMID
