MACC Must Be Professional
Feb 20th, 2009 | By nizam | Category: NewsSHAH ALAM, Februari 20- Lawyer to the Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, Sankara N Nair has is upset with a statement by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner hich had been reported in several online news portals today.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan was reported as saying that “there is strong evidence to show that the Selangor Menteri Besar had misused his powers of the maintenance of his personal car and the distribution of 46 cows for slaughter…” as reported by Star Online.
Sankara said the MACC was choosing to depart from the time honoured norm to not make statements indicating or stating the culpability of a person who was being investigated.
“In this case the MACC has chosen to depart from this time honoured norm and as such it clearly reeks of double standards,” he said in a media conference at the Menteri Besar’s Office this afternoon.
He said, this had caused his client – an opposition leader to look “guilty” in the yes of the public before he was charged or convicted in court.
He also questioned the actions of the MACC in prejudging his client and urged the MACC to be professional at all times.
Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid in a statement here today said he had been informed that the MACC was still conducting investigations against him and he had been advised by his lawyers not to give any comments in respecting the legal process.
Meanwhile, Chairman for Permanent Committee on Investment, Industry and Commerce, Teresa Kok said Ahmad Said’s statement regarding the investigations abuse of power was politically motivated.- NOOR ALLIA KASSIM
