Feb 19th, 2009 | By nizam | Category: NewsSHAH ALAM, February 19 – The Selangor state government under the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government will hold a One Year Anniversary Celebration of the New Selangor Government Administration, next month.
Political Secretary to the Dato’ Menteri Besar, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the celebration would begin on March 8th and reach its pinnacle on March 21st at the Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam.
“We will begin this first year anniversary by holding a special meeting between the Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and all of Selangor’s Village Safety and Development Committees (JKKK) in Shah Alam,” he said, estimating that 4,000 people would attend the meeting.
He said, after that programme, the state government would continue with yet another programme known as ‘Wisel Stop’ which was scheduled to begin on March 14th in Hulu Selangor, March 15th in Gombak (in the morning, proceeding to Petaling Jaya in the afternoon or later in the evening), March 16th in Hulu Langat, March 17th in Sepang (proceeding to Kuala Langat in the afternoon), March 18th in Klang, March 19th in Kuala Selangor, March 20th to Sabak Bernam and March 21st in Shah Alam.
“In this programme a bus delegation lead by the Dato’ Menteri Besar, Exco leaders and Members of Parliament and Aduns from all over Selangor will move from one district to another throughout the state,” he said.
He said, the programme was inspired by a common practice in America whereby its leaders (such as Barack Obama) used buses or trains to meet the people before being appointed.
He explained further that each district involved would also hold a mini carnival whereby government agencies including the bodies involved in the ‘Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor’ (MES) programme such as Tawas, Golden Age-Friendly, Gift for Children Entering University and others.
“Meanwhile the height of the first anniversary will be held in Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam, on March 21st,” he said adding that various shows would be staged that day including cultural performances, video shows on the achievements of the state government during its one-year reign and future plans, as well as speeches from the state leaders.
Explaining the purpose for the celebration, he said it was mainly to introduce the state government’s policies and the people’s involvement.
“Generally we are happy that in this year we have managed to introduce various programmes, this is a great achievement for a new government in the space of one year,” he said adding that local authorities (PBT) and the state government would be shouldering the cost for the anniversary celebration.
He said this in a press conference at the Bilik Gerakan Kerajaan Negeri, Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (SSAAS), here this afternoon. – MURIZA ABDUL HAMID
