PETALING JAYA, February 17 – Elizabeth Wong, whose semi-nude photographs were distributed by certain parties as reported in the media yesterday, today offered to resign as Selangor State Executive Council’s Member (Exco) and Bukit Lanjan State Assemblyman.

Elizabeth who holds the portfolio for Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment said the decision was made in the interests of the party she represented, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

“I believe that these ‘attacks’ will continue with greater intensity, and I have no doubt that Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) will continue to manipulate the situation. Accordingly, I have decided to make a stand, in the interest of the party and its struggle for the people,” she said in a press conference at the PKR Headquarters in Damansara, this afternoon.

Elizabeth, who read the written statement throughout the press conference, looked sad when some of her supporters who also attended the ceremony began shouting disputing her decision to resign.

Elizabeth said she would discuss with the Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to arrange the proper handover of her responsibilities.

“I will continue to serve the people and fight for justice in Malaysia ,” she said.

Elizabeth said, she still held fast to her fundamental principle that in democracy, everyone has a right to privacy.

She stressed that she had done nothing wrong and was not ashamed of her status a single person.

She said the incident showed that there were certain parties who were trying to undermine her credibility as an Exco member and PKR leader.

“If I have let anyone down or offended anyone, I offer my sincere apologies,” she said, while expressing her eternal gratitude to those who had  given unwavering support to her and the party, especially the Dato’ Menteri Besar.

Elizabeth made a police report on Sunday at the Damansara police station after being informed that photographs and videos of her sleeping which were taken without her knowledge were distributed by certain parties.

Meanwhile, Pas Woman’s Chief Noridah Mohd Saleh who was also present at the press conference said she respected PKR Women’s Information Chief’s decision.

“We leave it to the PKR leadership on the correct steps that should be taken. I hope that the people will continue to give strong support to remove Umno and BN as leaders. They have been around too long and are no longer capable of continuing the people’s agendas
