Spreading of Private Photographs a Malicious Attack : Elizabeth
Feb 16th, 2009 | By nizam | Category: NewsSHAH ALAM, February 16 – Chairperson for Permanent Committee on Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment, Elizabeth Wong regards the spreading of photographs and videos of her in partial nudity and intimate positions as a malicious attack on her personality.
Elizabeth, 37, who is also State Assemblywoman (Adun) for Bukit Lanjan said the act not only tarnished her reputation but was also a gross invasion of her personal life.
“My family members are standing behind me. I would like to appeal to the media to give me and my family members some breathing space in this trying time so that I can weather this huge challenge,” she said in a media statement this afternoon.
Elizabeth who was informed about the photographs by journalists from an English newspaper on February 13th, made a police report last night.
Elizabeth said, she would cooperate fully with the police, besides continuing her duties in carrying out her task of serving the people of Selangor faithfully.
Meanwhile, the Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said he and the members of the State Executive Council meeting (Exco) will continue giving support to Elizabeth, who is also the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Women’s Information Chief.
He said Elizabeth had informed him about the incident.
“As a human being, YB Elizabeth has the right to carry out her personal life and all parties should respect that,” he said in a statement.
Abdul Khalid said throughout the past 11 months, Elizabeth had proved her capabilities in carrying out her duties as a representative and Exco and was extremely persistent and wise.
Therefore, he was confident Elizabeth could still continue performing her duties and responsibilities well.
He also believed certain parties would use the issue for political purposes.
“However, I hope members of the public will not make judgments before the police release a statement on the results of their investigations relating to her report,” he said. – NOOR ALLIA KASSIM
