Sultan of Selangor Visits International Calligraphy Exhibition
Jan 22nd, 2009 | By nizam | Category: NewsSHAH ALAM, January 22 – The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj visited the Selangor Islamic Arts Park Complex, near here, today.
He also spent some time at the International Calligraphy Exhibition ‘Divine Words In The Eyes of Calligraphers’ that is being held until the 31st of March.
Accompanying his departure were the Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, State Secretary, Dato’ Ramli Mahmud, Tengku Panglima Diraja Selangor, Tengku Sulaiman Shah Alhaj and Chairman of Yayasan Restu, Datuk Abdul Latiff Mirasa.
Meanwhile, the exhibition organised by Yayasan Restu as a joint venture with the Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya. Several Japanese universities are also in collaboration for this exhibition, namely the Waseda University, Tokyo University, Kyoto University, Toyo Bunko and the national Humanitarian Institute (Nihu).
The exhibition which began November 22 last year also displays works of famous calligraphers, among them Profesor Fuad Kouichi Honda, President of the Japan Arabic Calligraphy Association who obtained a degree from Turkish Calligrapher, Hassan Cheleby.
Also on display are the works of Mahmud Buchari from Indonesia and Syed Reza Hashemi Nik of Iran.
For Abdul Latiff, even though they had different aesthetic values, Yayasan Restu and the calligraphers involved in the exhibition painted works of art which were not only beautiful to see, but were also influenced by their hearts and emotions in the appreciation of calligraphy. – NOOR ALLIA KASSIM
